I have many fond memories of Nean from my childhood and teenage years. Growing up, we would often go "home" as my mom (Loretta Connell Jones) referred to it. Each trip seemed to culminate with a visit to Nean and Dick's house where us children were treated to delicious meals and snacks, as well as walking tours of all of Dick's many plants. One thing I remember most about Nean was that, even as a young child, she never spoke "at" me, but with me. In my adult years, I haven't had the opportunity to visit "home", but I have kept in light contact with Nean, usually to pass on information on other family members' passing, or to express my condolences on the passing of Dick. While these situations would start off with sad news, most all of them ended with a good conversation with a lady who has led a remarkable life. My condolences to her children, grandchildren and her sister and brother.
