Obituary of Dorothy Cecchi

Olean-- Dorothy J. Cecchi of 161 S. 25th Street, passed away Saturday (January 30, 2010) at the Olean General Hospital.
Born October 3, 1925 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of Alfred and Azlee Gentry Swartz. On May 3,1943, in New York City, she married Leo Cecchi, who predeceased her on February 26, 1995.
Mrs. Cecchi moved to New York City when she was 17, where she met her future husband. Together, they traveled around the country following the Big Bands. Later, they moved to the Olean area. She was employed for 43 years at area restaurants including the former Olean House, the former Castle Restaurant and the former Augostini's.
Mrs. Cecchi was past member of St. Mary of the Angels Church. She was a member of the 60 Plus Club and a volunteer at Interfaith Caregivers. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, cooking and reading.
Surviving are her 2 children Dorene (Daniel) Carnicelli of Allegany, Thomas (Riite) Cecchi of Olean; 1 sister Jean Buoy of Hermiston, OR; 7 grandchildren Michael Carnicelli of Jacksonville, FL., Anthony (Ashli) Carnicelli of Waltham, MA., Ryan Cecchi of Alexandria, VA., Christopher Cecchi of Bradford, PA., Kyle Cecchi of Portville, Meere Kataotao of Olean, Diego Teeta of Olean; 1 brother-in-law Albert (Virginia) Cecchi; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband she was predeceased by her brother Alfred M. Swartz, a sister-in-law Margaret Cecchi; and a brother and sister-in-law Allen and Josephine Cecchi.
A memorial service will be held and announced at a later date. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
Memorials if desired may be made to the Allegany Volunteer Fire Department 2598 W. Five Mile Road, Allegany or to Interfaith Caregivers 124 North Union Street, Olean.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Road, Olean.
