Paul J. Nenno Venice, FL-Paul J. Nenno, 80, a former resident of Allegany, died Sunday (January 24, 2010) in Venice. Born September 3, 1929 in Olean, NY he was the son of Walter J. and Ruth Atherton Nenno. On November 14, 1953 at St. Bonaventure Church in Allegany he married the former Shirley Irene McGraw who predeceased him March 17, 2006. Mr. Nenno was a resident of Allegany most of his life and had attended Allegany High School. He was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the 2nd Armored Division with the Tank Corps. He had been employed by Dresser Rand in Olean for 36 years, retiring in 1992. Upon retirement he and his wife moved to Venice, FL. He was a former member of St. Bonaventure Church in Allegany and had attended Lady of Our Lourdes and the Epiphany Church's, both in Venice. Mr. Nenno was active in several organizations, most in the Venice area including being an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus, a life member of the Disabled American Vets and a life member of the Veterans of Foreign War. He was also a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, the Elks Lodge and the F-Troop Vietnam Brotherhood. He was active with the State of Florida Chapter of The Mighty Eight Air Force Historical Society. In the Allegany area he was a member of SOAR in Olean and was a founder of the AlleCatt Football League and served as its first commissioner for 5 years. For several years he and his wife held a federal license to serve as Sea Turtle Volunteers working under the direction of the Mote Marine Lab in Sarasota, FL. Mr. Nenno had a love of music, mostly jazz and he loved to sing and attend as many jazz and karaoke festivals as he could. He loved his family most but he enjoyed the many entertainers he met at the various musical events. Surviving are 3 children Catherine D. (Kevin) Vail of Venice, FL, P. J. (Terri) Nenno of Medina, OH and Terry J. (Tina) Nenno of Wilmington, NC; 6 grandchildren Kasey (Art) Hayes, Mike Vail, Kelly Vail, Anthony Nenno, Delaine Nenno and Christopher Nenno; 1 great grandson Landon Hayes; 1 sister Norma Jean Higley of Allegany and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife he was predeceased by 1 brother Clair Nenno. Friends are invited to attend a memorial mass to be celebrated Saturday (March 27, 2010) at 1:00pm in St. Bonaventure Church. Rev. Richard Husted, OFM, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Allegany American Legion Charles Harbel Post 892, the Olean VFW Post 1619, the Allegany Knights of Columbus Council 1220 or to the Allegany Historical Society.
