Edna M. Boni RN Edna M. Boni succumbed to cancer on January 2, 2010, while a resident at The Pines in Olean, NY. She was born February 12, 1924 to the late Joseph and Martha Feldman of West Valley, NY. After graduating from West Valley Central School, she supported the World War II effort, working for Curtiss-Wright Aircraft in Buffalo, NY. She then joined the Cadet Nurses Corps and attended Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, where she was president of her class, graduating as a registered nurse (RN). As part of the program, she completed courses at Canisius College in Buffalo. She began her nursing career in Olean, NY, where she met her husband, John L. Boni, whom she married on August 6, 1949, and who survives her. Edna practiced as an RN for close to 5 decades, working at the Olean General Hospital, St. Francis Hospital, and as a private duty nurse. She also earned a Nursing Teachers Certificate at Buffalo State College and taught at Cattaraugus County BOCES. She was a member of St. Mary of the Angels parish and their bereavement team, the St. Francis Sodality, Olean General Hospital Retirees, Olean Garden Club, Red Hat Ladies, and Sweet Adelines. She enjoyed playing the piano and violin, and was an avid reader. A cat lover, she also enjoyed watching wildlife, especially birds. Also surviving are a son Robert (Patricia) of Reading, PA, a daughter Kathleen Boni, a granddaughter Emma, and a great grandson Brayden, several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was pre-deceased by four sisters, Irma Feldman, Ellen Ziolko, Inez Abbott, and Bernice Shaffer and two brothers, Arnold Feldman and Ralph Feldman. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Road, Olean on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday (January 6, 2010) at 11 am at St. Mary of the Angels Church in Olean. Rev. Gregory Dobson, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be private in Chestnut Hill Cemetery in Portville. Flowers are gratefully declined.
