Carlyle H. "Spence" Weber "Former Olean resident"
Cuba, NY-Carlyle H. "Spence" Weber, a 5 year resident of 625 Wolf Run Rd. and a longtime Olean resident and later a resident of Florida for many years passed away Thursday (December 24, 2009).
Born May 1, 1915 in Corry, PA he was the son of George and Myrtle McElroy Weber. At the age of 2 Spence's mother died, leading to his having been raised by his mother's sister and her husband Edith and Theodore Fox. On March 22, 1941 at St. Mary of the Angels Church in Olean he married A. Jean Heron who predeceased him March 5, 2005.
Spence was a graduate of Olean High School and later served with the US Army during WWII from 1943 until 1945. He worked for 43 years for Dresser Clark Co. in Olean in the production control office, retiring in 1979.
He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus Council #338 of Olean and a life member of Olean American Legion Post #530. His hobbies included golfing and bowling.
Surviving are 1 son John G. "Jack" (Marise) Weber of New York; 2 daughters Patty Mormile of Rockville Center, Long Island and Cindy (Ronald) Alferink of Cuba, with whom he resided the past 5 years; 8 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife he was predeceased by his sister and brother-in-law Jean and Art Swanson and a son-in-law Charles Mormile in April 2007.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Sunday from 5-8pm. Funeral services will be held Monday (December 28, 2009) beginning with a prayer service in the funeral home at 9:30am. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00am in St. Mary of the Angels Church. Rev. Gregory Dobson, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. The Allegany American Legion Degree Team will provide military services at the grave.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to St. Mary of the Angels Church or to the Walsh Foundation 208 N. 24th St. Olean, NY 14760.
