"Loving Husband and Father"
Olean-- Eugene C. Smith of 113 S. 7th Street, Olean, passed away Thursday (December 24, 2009) at the Wellsville Manor Nursing Home.
Born January 23, 1937 in Tyrone, Pa, he was the son of Ernest and Grace Cherry Smith. On August 24, 1963 in Utahville, Pa, he married Gloria Flick, who survives.
Mr. Smith was enlisted in the U. S. Army, serving from 1957-1959. He moved to Olean in 1964 and started his employment at Dresser Rand, retiring in 1999.
He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church. He loved vacationing with his family and was an avid Buffalo Bills and St. Bonaventure Bonnies Fan.
Besides his wife he is survived by his 3 children Randall Smith of Bulpitt, Ill., Cindy (James) Karroach of Allegany, Lori Slavin of Olean; 4 brothers David Smith of Altoona, Pa, Paul (Dorothy) Smith of Tyrone, Pa, Harry Smith of Tyrone, Pa, Dean (Betty) Smith of Vienna, WVA; 2 sisters Ruth Dunn of Altoona, Pa, Rachel (Paul) Miller of Williamsburg, Pa; 5 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by 3 sisters Ada Gardill, Ann Kelly and Catherine Flick.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Road, on Sunday from 5-8pm. Funeral services will be held on Monday (December 28, 2009) at 11am at the funeral home. Rev. Derek Cheek, pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery.
Memorials if desired, may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
