Obituary of Charles Salmonson

Allegany-Charles V. Salmonson, of Fortune Drive, died Saturday (September 12, 2009) at the Olean General Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Born January 26, 1921 in Olean, he was the son of John and Kate Soderstrom Salmonson. On November 8, 1952 at Transfiguration Church in Olean, he married Amelia Wallon who survives.
Mr. Salmonson was a graduate of Allegany Central School class of 1939. He was enlisted in the United States Armed Forces from 1942-46, serving during World War II as a Tech Sergent and later for the Air National Guard.
He was employed for several years at Hall's Lumber Mill and later on for Tuna Mill & Lumber in Bradford, retiring in 1985. In his free time, Mr. Salmonson enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and making chocolate chip pancakes for his grandsons.
Surviving besides his wife, are their 2 sons Anthony ("Charlie") Salmonson of Dayton OH, James Salmonson of Allegany; 1 daughter Paula (Mark) Cotton of Olean; 5 grandsons Hunter Salmonson of Orlando, FL., Brian Cotton of Olean, Gregory Cotton of Olean, Michael Salmonson of Allegany, Vanni Salmonson of Allegany; 1 sister Frances Wurtz; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by 2 brothers Arnold Salmonson, William Salmonson; and a sister-in-law Rita Salmonson.
Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Tuesday (September 15, 2009) at 11am, at the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Road. Rev. Eileen Bordeuin Vanderzwan, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Olean, will officiate. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Allegany Volunteer Fire Department, First Presbyterian Church of Olean, 212 Laurens Street Olean, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
