Harry C. Neff
Olean-Harry C. Neff of 1705 N. Union Street, passed away Wednesday (August 12, 2009) at his home.
Born June 29, 1929 in Middletown Indiana, he was the son of Beverly and Harriett Cole Neff. On April 24, 1954, in St. Mary of The Angels Church in Olean, he married Mary A. McCarthy who survives.
Mr. Neff was a graduate of Olean High School and St. Bonaventure University. He was enlisted in the United States Navy from 1948-1952. Mr. Neff was first employed at VanDerHorst, Kendall Oil. He went on to teach at Randolph School District, and later on was employed at Dresser Clark Co. as a draftsman, until his retirement in 1994.
He was a member of the Pulaski Club, St. Bonaventure golf course and a member of the Dresser Clark Golf League. He enjoyed playing cards, bicycling, golfing and he loved spending time with his family.
Surviving besides his wife of 55 years, are his 5 children, Charles Neff of Niverville, NY, Karl Neff of Olean, Karen Neff of Olean, Diana (Dan) Piccioli of Allegany, Kurt Neff of Tampa FL, 7 grandchildren Jason (Meela) Neff, Justin (Melissa) Neff, Janessa (Thomas) VanDerWeit, Bryan Piccioli, Lauren Piccioli, Kyle Neff, Taylor Neff; a sister Ruth Neff; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother Stanley Neff.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Road, on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Saturday (August 15, 2009) at 10am at the funeral home. Brother Chris Coccia with the St. Bonaventure Friary will officiate. Private burial services will be held at St. Bonaventure Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials if desired may be made to the SPCA 2944 Olean-Hinsdale Road, Olean NY 14760 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
