Richard A. Straub
Allegany, NY-Richard A. Straub of 4318 Route 417 died suddenly Thursday (August 6, 2009) at the Olean General Hospital.
Born November 15, 1953 in Olean, NY he was the son of Edward C. and Clara C. Dorson Straub. On September 14, 1974 at St. Bonaventure Church in Allegany he married Mary E. Gleason who survives.
Mr. Straub was a 1972 graduate of Allegany Central School and a member of St. Bonaventure Church and the former St. John the Baptist Church, now an oratory, in Vandalia. He had been employed since 1974 by Olean Wholesale Grocery Coop. He was presently serving as the Commander of the Sons of the American Legion in Allegany and was an active supporter of Boy Scout Troop 677 of Allegany. He was such a good friend of Santa Claus that he was able to arrange for Santa's visits to the children in the Olean area for the past 15 Christmas seasons.
Surviving besides his wife are 3 children Gregory R. (Robyn) Straub, Maureen E. (James Kupiec) Straub and Rebecca M. Straub, all of Allegany; 2 grandchildren Grace C. Straub and Calvin R. Straub; 2 brothers Charles (Bonnie) Straub of Allegany, Larry (Trish) Straub of Cuba; 1 sister JoAnne (Ken) Kelly of Portville; 1 brother-in-law Daniel (Corrine) Gleason of Allegany; 2 sisters-in-law Carolyn Hemphill of Allegany and Ellen Gleason of Olean and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; an infant brother Raymond Straub and his father and mother-in-law Tom and Marie Gleason.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Sunday from 2 until 7pm. Funeral services will be held Monday (August 10, 2009) beginning with a prayer service at noon in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30pm in St. Bonaventure Church. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Allegany Engine Co. or to the Allegany American Legion Post 892.
