Anthony S. "Lubean" Veno "Loving husband, father, grandfather and friend" Olean, NY-Anthony S. "Lubean" Veno of 945 N. 4th St. died at home surrounded by his family on Thursday (August 6, 2009) after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Born May 29, 1934 in Olean, NY he was one of five children born to Luigi and Anna Veno. On March 13, 1965 in Tampa, FL he married Bonnie L. Genberg who survives. Mr. Veno was a 1953 graduate of Olean High School and had attended St. Bonaventure University. He had also served in the US Army during the Korean War where he saw two years of active duty. He had been employed for 27 years for the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation where he was a fish and wildlife technician, retiring in 1991. After retirement he spent all of his time enjoying his family and friends which he loved as much as life itself. Mr. Veno was a longtime, devout member of St. John's Church in Olean where he assisted as an altar server for many years. He was a member of the Republican Party and served as Olean City Republican Committee Chairman. In that position he helped raise funds for candidates and was very instrumental in helping many candidates with their careers in politics, some of whom are in office today. He also ran for the position of Mayor of Olean in the 1990's. He previously coached local baseball and football teams and most recently enjoyed spending much of his time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Surviving besides his wife are 4 children Kim (David) Blatchley of Olean, Tracy (Victoria Muniga) Veno of Olean, Christine (Christopher) Flicker of Olean and Thomas (Bobbi Radomski) Veno of Allegany; 8 grandchildren Nathan Veno, Jordan Flicker, Meghan Veno, Nicholas Veno, Luke Veno, Jason (Heidi Pugrant) Blatchley, Jessica Blatchley and Travis Radomski (Veno); 3 great grandchildren Connor Valenti, Cole Blatchley and Emma Veno; 1 brother Carl (Linda) Veno of Allentown, PA; 2 sisters Helen Marra and Jenny Jadlowski, both of Olean; several nieces and nephews and a close, dear friend Stephen (Eunice) Mooradian. He was predeceased by 1 sister Kate Hurley of Florida. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig &amp; Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Sunday from 2-4 &amp; 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Monday (August 10, 2009) beginning with a prayer service at 9:15am in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00am in St. John's Church. Rev. Edward Sheedy, pastor, and Rev. Barry Allaire will be the concelebrants. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery with the Allegany American Legion Ritual Team conducting military honors at the grave. Memorials may be made to St. John's Church or to a charity of the donor's choice. <h3>Visitation</h3> Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9pm <h3>Services</h3> Monday (August 10, 2009) Prayer service 9:15 at funeral home Mass of Christian Burial 10:00am in St. John&#39;s RC Church, N. Union St. Olean <h3>Interment</h3> St. Bonaventure Cemetery Full military services accorded by the ritual team of the Allegany American Legion.
