Obituary of June A. Abdo

June A. Abdo “Grandma June” Olean—June A. Abdo of 315 N. 9th Street passed away peacefully Tuesday (April 1, 2008) in the Olean General Hospital with her loving family by her side. Born February 27, 1929, in Olean, she was the daughter of Lawrence H. and Anna E. Hadley Smith. On January 28, 1949 at St. Mary the Angels Church in Olean she married Eugene T. Abdo who survives. Mrs. Abdo was a graduate of Olean High School and had been employed by the former Ickey’s Cookies and Loretto Foods. She had most recently worked independently as a caregiver for individuals in the Olean area. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church. Her favorite activities included visits to Atlantic City and being a homemaker where her family members knew they would always be welcome to gather. Surviving besides her husband are her 5 children Karen (Gary) Hasard of Cuba, Tom (Denise) Abdo, Tim (Theresa) Abdo, Mike (Gigi) Abdo and Rick (Julie) Abdo, all of Olean; 14 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 1 brother Don (Sis) Smith of Portville, 1 sister Lorraine (Don) Williamson of Durham, NC; several nieces and nephews and her beloved dog Maggie. She was predeceased by a sister Audrey Sherman on December 31, 1984 and a brother Larry Smith on June 3, 2000. Friends will be received at Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Road, on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held on Friday (April 4, 2008) at 10am at the funeral home. Father Joseph Akiki, pastor of St. Joseph’s Maronite Church will officiate. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Intensive Care Unit at the Olean General Hospital.
