Elizabeth Rose “Betty” Bushnell
“Loving mother and grandma”
Olean, NY—Elizabeth Rose “Betty” Bushnell, 91, a former resident of 202 Worden Ave. for over 50 years, died Friday (April 18, 2008) in The Pines Health and Rehabilitation Center, Olean.
Born May 5, 1916 in St. Mary’s PA she was the daughter of John and Frances Kordan Paar. On August 23, 1942 in Olean she married Merle C. Bushnell who predeceased her December 25, 1977.
Mrs. Bushnell first worked as a waitress for the former Lincoln Diner for many years. She then worked as a furrier for the former N. L. Kaplan Co. and later as a personal caregiver to several people. She most recently worked as an aide at the St. Elizabeth Motherhouse in Allegany prior to her retirement.
She was a member of St. Mary of the Angels Church and she was a family oriented woman whose family was her life. In 1999 she was honored by the March of Dimes as Mother of the Year. She enjoyed playing bingo, working crossword puzzles and crocheting.
Surviving are 3 children Douglas (Sharon) Bushnell of Ischua, Merlyn “Moy” (Timothy) Gore of Cuba and Mary Ellen (Robert) Sader of Olean; 6 grandchildren Denise (Michael) Causey and Kelly (Robert) Pearce, both of Prattville, Alabama, Richard (Bridget) Gore of Cortland, Benjamin (Jill) Gore of San Antonio, TX Jennifer Sader of Weirton, WV and Adrienne Sader of Olean; 4 great grandchildren; 1 sister Helen Anthony of Mira Loma, CA; 2 sisters-in-law Dorothy Paar and Eleanor Paar, both of Olean; several nieces and nephews and many special family friends.
In addition to her husband she was predeceased by 4 brothers John Paar, Carl Paar, Victor Paar and Frank Paar and 2 sisters Frances Heister and Valeria Washington.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Sunday from 1-3 & 6-8pm. Funeral services will be held Monday (April 21, 2008) beginning with a prayer service at 10:30am in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am in St. Mary of the Angels Church in Olean. Rev. Gregory Dobson, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Friends of the Pines 2245 W. State St. Olean, NY 14760 or to St. Mary of the Angels Church.
