Marian V. “Chub” Wenke
Olean, NY—Marian V. “Chub” Wenke of 1218 W. Sullivan St. died Saturday (August 9, 2008) in Absolut Care of Allegany.
Born September 11, 1926 in Oil City, PA she was the daughter of Elmer and Vena Hughes. On September 6, 1947 at St. Mary of the Angels Church in Olean she married Loren E. Wenke who survives.
Mrs. Wenke had been employed by the former Dairyland as well as Pick-Ups Restaurant. She was also employed by the former Acme Electric Co.
She was a member of St. Mary of the Angels Church for 60 years and served as a volunteer at the Olean General Hospital. She will be most remembered as a loving, supportive and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who loved playing with small children. She also had a sweet smile, gentle touch and loved to laugh and joke around. Playing cards with her close friend June Scanlon was special to her, as well as doing crafts, knitting, crocheting and planting flowers. She was often seen at her favorite past time which was walking with her husband and sitting on the front porch swing.
Surviving besides her husband of 60 years are 3 sons Peter (Mary) Wenke of Olean, Michael Wenke of Allegany and Gary (Denise) Wenke of Olean; 1 daughter Denise Morgan of Anacortes, WA; 6 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; 1 brother Robert Hughes of Prescott, AZ and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by 5 brothers Leroy Hughes, Lawrence Hughes, Lester Hughes, Wayne Hughes and Jay Hughes and 1 sister Audine Robbins.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd Olean on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Tuesday (August 12, 2008) beginning with a prayer service at 9:30am in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00am in St. Mary of the Angels Church. Rev. Gregory Dobson, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
