Obituary of Songa I. Brookins

Songa I. Brookins Olean, NY—Songa I. Brookins of Olean died Sunday (August 31, 2008) in The Pines Health and Rehabilitation Center, Olean. Born July 18, 1920 in Jamestown, NY she was the daughter of Carl E. and Hannah M. Johnson Carlein. On December 9, 1939 in Jamestown she married Clarence F. Brookins who predeceased her March 7, 1988. Mrs. Brookins was a resident of Olean most of her life and had been employed by Olean American Tile Co., retiring on March 1, 1988. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Olean and was a longtime member of the Burden Bearers. Surviving are 2 sons Clarence F. (Christine) Brookins of Dearborn Heights, MI and Robert W. (Barbara) Brookins of Olean; 3 daughters Corrynne (Leonard) Gerwitz of Olean and Claresse (James) Little of Beaumont, TX and Jaclynne (Ronnie) Delcambre of Orange, TX; 10 grandchildren Brigeth Brookins, Jeffrey Brookins, Wendi Grace Brookins, Kim Johnsen, Stacey Broussard, Joey Delcambre, Trey Little, Shannon Little, Robert Brookins and Francis Peck; 9 great grandchildren Jennifer Johnsen, Alyssa Brookins, Shanna Brookins, Samantha Brookins, Cheyenne Peck, Anastasia Peck, Rhiannon Peck, Jacob Peck and Jason Peck and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by 1 grandchild Jubal Alaimo and 2 brothers Jabez Carlein and Carl Carlein. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Thursday (September 4, 2008) at 11:00am in the funeral home. Rev. Daniel !McDowell, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Olean, will officiate. Burial will be in Hinsdale Cemetery, Maplehurst. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the First Baptist Church or to Friends of The Pines, 2245 W. State St. Olean, NY 14760.
