Obituary of Peter J. Berezney

Peter J. Berezney Olean-- Peter J. Berezney, 84, late of Manchester Township, N.J. and Olean, N.Y., died Monday, October 13, 2008 at The Pines in Olean. He was born November 14, 1923 in Jersey City, N.J. He attended the University of Notre Dame, where he studied economics and played on N.D.’s 1943 national championship football team. Upon graduating he joined the NFL as a defensive tackle, first for the Los Angeles Dons and then the Baltimore Colts. He was, for more than thirty-five years, a sales engineer for Joseph T. Ryerson and Sons, an industrial steel supplier. He is survived by his wife, Virginia, of Olean, N.Y.; his daughter and son-in-law, Leigh and Ed. Simone, also of Olean; a brother, Steven, of Manchester Township; and several nieces and nephews. Private internment services will be held in New Jersey. A memorial service in Olean will be held at a future date.
