Obituary of Robert V. Kreydt

Robert V. Kreydt “Loving and generous husband and father” Olean, NY—Robert V. Kreydt, a lifelong resident of Olean, died Monday (October 20, 2008) in the Absolut at Allegany. Born June 9, 1914 in Olean, NY he was the son of Louis and Amelia Wenke Kreydt. On April 19, 1950 at St. Mary of the Angels Church in Olean he married Mary W. O’Neil who predeceased him December 31, 2005. Mr. Kreydt was a 1933 graduate of Olean High School and was a veteran of WWII having served with the US Army in the European Theatre. He had retired from the US Postal Service in 1979 and also had worked his whole life as a meat cutter for several grocery markets in Olean. He was a member of St. Mary of the Angels Church and was a former member of the St. Vincent !DePaul Society. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking and bowling. He was a nature lover and he enjoyed having an aviary as well as having enjoyed playing cards and games. Surviving are 5 children Mary Cook of Syracuse, Ellen (Van) Gayton of Jacksonville, FL, Catherine Barto of Elmira, Margaret (Howard) Potter of Sewickley, PA and Neil (Diana) Kreydt of !DuBois, PA; 7 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren ; 2 sisters-in-law Anne O’Neil of Olean and Josephine Curran of Rochester and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife he was predeceased by 2 sisters Helen Boyle and Madeline Gricunis and 3 brothers Paul Kreydt, Arthur Kreydt and Carl Kreydt. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Friday (October 24, 2008) beginning with a prayer service at 9:30am in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00am in St. Mary of the Angels Church. Rev. Gregory Dobson, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Mary of the Angels Church, the St. Vincent !DePaul Society or to the Salvation Army.
