Kenneth S. Crawforth
Olean—Kenneth S. Crawforth, of 508 Irving Street, passed away Tuesday, November 4, 2008, at the Olean General Hospital, after a brief illness.
Born November 1, 1945 in Olean, NY he was the son of Kenneth W. and Helen C. Kosidlo Crawforth. On January 5, 2002 he married his long time “Buddy” Carol Ann Oakley in the city of Olean.
Kenny was a graduate of Arch Bishop Walsh High School and the Rochester Business Institute. He was briefly employed at the former Dresser Clark Bros, and then later for the former Felmont Oil Co. until its closing. He worked at St. Bonaventure University as a security guard before going to work for the City of Olean in 1984 until his retirement in 2006.
He was a member and past president of Olean Local #805 and C.S.E.A. Employees. He was a life member of St. Stephen’s Club and the Pulaski Club. He belonged to the Olean Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #616 and the Olean Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge #491. He also served the Olean Community as a member and past Chief of the Olean Civil Defense Auxiliary Police.
Surviving besides his wife is a son Stephen C. Crawforth of Portville; a sister Linda (Jerry) Hollowell of Wake Forest, NC; 2 nieces Lisa Hollowell of Virginia Beach, VA and Michelle (Robert) Babcock of Ormond Beach, FL; 1 nephew Michael (Dawn) Hollowell of North Carolina; several grandchildren and cousins; 3 brothers-in-law Alan “Hop” Oakley of Olean, Kenneth (Carol) Oakley of Batavia, Stephen (Michele) Oakley of Ischua; 1 sister-in-law Sharon (Jim) Kelly of Olean. He will be greatly missed by many close friends he met over the years.
He was predeceased by a son Gregory J. Crawforth, Sr. on October 31, 1991.
A memorial visitation will be held at Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Road, on Saturday (November 8, 2008) from 9:30-11:00 am. A memorial service will follow at 11:00am.in the funeral home. Rev. Dr. Anthony L. Evans will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
