Obituary of Gloria Jean Attwell

Gloria Jean Attwell Olean-- Gloria Jean Attwell, a long time resident of Olean, passed away Monday (December 22, 2008) at her home at 225 Davis Avenue after a lengthy illness. Born June 29, 1933 in Olean, NY she was the daughter of Ralph B. and Dorothy Spencer Grove. On October 1, 1955 in Olean she married Howard D. Collins. She later married Robert C. Attwell on July 4, 1969 in Allegany. He predeceased her on December 8, 1981. Mrs. Attwell attended Olean schools and was employed by the former Icky’s Cookies. She also worked as a housekeeper and also for the former High Q Co., now AVX Co., retiring in 1969. She lived her life simply, considered Olean her home, and believed in the “old way” of doing things. She enjoyed walking, visiting friends, hanging wallpaper and embroidering. Surviving are three daughters Doris (Sherrie) Bennett of Salamanca, Bonnie (William) Matteson of Olean, Beatrice (Steven) Cliff of Olean; 1 son Perry (Ruth) Attwell, Jr. of Olean; 6 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was looking forward to the arrival of her 8th great grandchild soon. Besides her husband she was predeceased by 1 daughter Beatrice Cliff on June 10, 2003; 3 brothers Ralph L. Grove on October 30, 2004, Robert E. Grove on September 8, 1987, Duane S. Grove on December 3, 1980 and 1 sister Frances M. !MacMillin on May 12, 1992. Friends will be received at Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Road, on Friday (December 26, 2008) from 10- 11am at which time funeral services will begin. Rev. David Scharf will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Memorials if desired may be made to !HomeCare & Hospice, 1225 W. State Street Olean.
