Obituary of Nancy Elizabeth Payne

Nancy Elizabeth Payne “Loving wife and mother” Olean, NY—Nancy Elizabeth Payne of 205 N. 14th St. died peacefully Saturday (December 27, 2008) in Buffalo General Hospital. Born November 16, 1934 in Buffalo, NY she was the daughter of Robert and Betty Robertson Bruce. On October 4, 1958 at the Cleveland Drive Presbyterian Church in Cheektowaga she married Robert Payne who survives. Mrs. Payne was a graduate of Amherst High School and worked as an executive secretary to the general manager of WBEN-TV in Buffalo for many years prior to moving to Olean in 1963. She then worked as the director of the American Red Cross in Olean for several years. She later worked for Smith Barney as the operations manager from 1971 until her retirement in 2004. She was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church; served as president of the former Olean Jayncee’s and was a volunteer for the Olean General Hospital. She was an avid golfer and tennis player. Surviving besides her husband are 1 son Bruce (Jennifer) Payne of Herndon, VA; 1 brother Robert Douglas (Selma) Bruce of Dexter; 2 nieces and many close friends. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Wednesday (December 31, 2008) at 11:00am in Trinity United Methodist Church. Rev. Brad Chesebro, pastor, will officiate. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society 6725 Lyons St. PO Box 7 East Syracuse, NY 13057.
