Richard J. “Dick” Warters Allegany, NY—Richard J. “Dick” Warters of 2460 Five Mile Rd. died Saturday (March 3, 2007) at home surrounded by his family after fighting a battle with lung cancer. Born September 9, 1940 in Olean, NY he was the son of Karl “Bud” and Margaret Warters. On October 24, 1992 at Lake Tahoe, CA he married Nancy Johnson who survives. Mr. Warters was a 1959 graduate of Allegany High School and then graduated from Tri-State University in Angola, Indiana with a degree in aeronautical engineering. He was first employed by !McDonnell Douglas Corp. in St. Louis, MO. He was then employed for 33 years for Rohr Industries in Chula Vista, CA where he traveled for them all over the world including Italy, Japan and France. He retired in 1998 as Vice President of Engineering from their El Cajon (Blossom Valley), CA location. He moved back to Allegany in 2006 and also spent part of each year at a vacation home in Lake Havasu City, AZ. He enjoyed many outdoor activities including boating, hiking in the Sierra Mountains, desert camping and co-ed softball. He especially enjoyed gardening and maintaining a well-landscaped yard as well as dining in restaurants and traveling. Surviving besides his wife are 1 daughter Teea (Brian) Evans of El Cajon, CA; 3 grandchildren Cassie Evans, Jacob Evans and Braden Evans; 1 sister Kay Ann (Tom) Smith of Allegany and several nieces and nephews including Tommy (Margie) Smith and Jeremy Fisher, Tina (Matt) Roy and Jessica, Lillian and Teresa Roy and Amy (Jesse) Noga and Tyler Noga. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service to be held Saturday (March 10, 2007) at 4:30pm in the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. Sr. Dana E. Hollis, OSF of the pastoral care at Olean General Hospital, will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Lung Association 210 John Glenn Dr. #3 Buffalo, NY 14226 or to Homecare and Hospice 1225 W. State St. Olean, NY 144760.
