Obituary of Marion R. Wood

Marion R. Wood “loved being a teacher” Hornell, NY--Marion R. Wood, formerly of Maple Avenue Extension in Allegany, and later Eden Heights, died Saturday (April 14, 2007) in Hornell Gardens, Hornell, NY where she had resided for the past 4 years. Born June 24, 1915 in Olean, NY she was the daughter of Howard and Ethel B. Brouckshaw Rogers. On September 19, 1936 in Great Valley, NY she married William A. Wood who predeceased her July 31, 1994. Mrs. Wood was a graduate of Olean High School, attended St. Bonaventure University, SUNY at Buffalo, and Mansfield State Teachers College where she earned a Master’s Degree in Home Economics. She first taught as a substitute in several Olean area schools and then taught Home Economics for many years at Hinsdale Central School, retiring in 1979. She was a lifelong member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, the New York State United Teachers Association and the Daughter’s of the American Revolution. She volunteered at the Cattaraugus County Nursing Home and she loved traveling. She was an accomplished seamstress and she made many beautiful things for family and friends. Surviving are 3 sons William (O’Della) Wood of Rush, NY, Robert (Kay) Wood of Arkport, NY and John (Sharon) Wood of Gasport, NY; 9 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; a brother-in-law Gordon Eddy of Syracuse and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by a sister Caroline Janet Eddy. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Tuesday (April 17, 2007) from 11:00am until 1:00pm at which time funeral services will be held. The Reverend Dr. Robert E. Friedrich, Jr., rector of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church or to the Alzheimer’s Association 2805 Wehrle Dr. Suite 6 Williamsville, NY 14221-7380.
