Irene M. Whipple
Olean, NY—Irene M. Whipple of 114 S. 18th St. passed away Saturday (April 29, 2007) in The Pines Health and Rehabilitation Center in Olean.
Born October 8, 1918 in New York City she was the daughter of Julius E. and Helen Szeidl Dorko. On August 29, 1935 she married P. Richard “Dick” Whipple who predeceased her December 3, 2003.
Mrs. Whipple was a 1935 graduate of Olean High School and had been employed as a library aide with the Olean City School District.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Olean and was a dedicated volunteer for several organizations. She was formerly a volunteer for the PTO, the March of Dimes, the Olean Little League and served as a secretary for the Olean High School Booster Club.
Her interests included sewing, knitting, reading and flower gardening. She had an appreciation for nature and enjoyed the outdoors at Cuba Lake.
Surviving are 6 children Judy (Mike) Sherwin of Cuba, Peggy (Bob) Seward of Tonawanda, Gail (Larry) Slocum of Kissimmee, FL, David (Paula) Whipple of Orange Park, FL, Todd (Margaret) Whipple of Keystone Heights, FL and Paul (Debbie) Whipple of Olean; 17 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband she was predeceased by a sister Betty Herzog and a grandson Sean Whipple.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State St. Olean on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Thursday (May 3, 2007) at 10:00am in the funeral home. Rev. Gerald Piper, pastor of Trinity United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery. Memorials may be made to a school library or public library of the donor’s choice.
