Raymond E. Schnell
Olean, NY—Raymond E. Schnell, of The Pines Health and Rehabilitation Center in Olean died Wednesday (July 4, 2007) in Olean.
Born January 19, 1916 in Olean, NY he was the son of Frank and Amelia Gaspar Schnell. He was married to Cecelia L. Fahrer who predeceased him August 7, 1997 after 45 years of marriage.
Mr. Schnell was a lifelong resident of Olean having graduated from Olean High School and Westbrook Business Academy. He was a veteran of WWII having served in the US Army. He had been employed by the L’Alcove Castle Restaurant shortly after its opening, and retired from there after 35 years as its accountant and comptroller.
He was a lifelong member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Olean where he served as Treasurer for over 20 years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and served in a number of positions over the years. He also was a member of the Association of Comptrollers. He belonged to the Charles Harbel American Legion Post 892 and was instrumental in establishing the Hinsdale American Legion Post where he was also a member.
Surviving are 4 children Penny (Thomas) Davis of Allegany, Lynn (William) Fitzpatrick of Olean, Susan (Larry) Bacon of Richmond Hill, GA and Raymond (Brenda) Schnell of Homosassa, FL; 5 grandchildren Thomas Davis, Stephen Davis, Michelle Davis, Jennifer Hughes and Susan Fitzpatrick; 4 great grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren Suzanne Kitts and Larry Bacon; 2 step great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife he was predeceased by 1 brother Frank Schnell and 2 sisters Marie Duplanti and Janet Weber.
Visitation and funeral services will be private. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery with military honors being accorded at the grave. Memorials may be made to the Allegany Fire Department.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, Olean.
