Obituary of Edward J. McGuire

Edward J. !McGuire Virginia Beach, VA—Edward J. !McGuire, 80, of 5625 Larry Ave. died Wednesday (November 7, 2007) in Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk, VA. Born July 26, 1927 in Hornell, NY he was the son of Francis "Bud" and Lucille F. Finch !McGuire. In 1974 in Niagara Falls, NY he married Sally Ryan who survives. Mr. !McGuire served in the US Navy during WWII and afterwards attended and graduated from SUNY Geneseo. His teaching career spanned 49 yeras, first having taught in New York and then for 6 years at Bishop Turner High School in Buffalo. He taught for 15 years at Archbishop Walsh High School in Olean and later for 19 years at Bradford (PA) High School, retiring in June of 2001. For 40 or those years, Mr. !McGuire was also a high school football, basketball and track coach. Surviving besides his wife are 5 children Michael (Anne) !McGuire of New Windsor NY, Mark (Mary) !McGuire of Burke, VA, Steve (Mellanie) !McGuire of Gambrills, MD, Edward (Suchin) !McGuire of Virginia Beach, VA and Patty (Paul) Simmons of Virginia Beach, VA; 6 stepchildren Don Hurlburt of Woodstock, GA, Ron Hurlburt of Clearwater, FL, Gary Hurlburt of Tampa, FL, Judy Anderson of Fredonia, Greg Hurlburt of Jamestown and Kathy Gladden of Orlando, FL; 11 grandchildren and 16 step grandchildren. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Saturday (November 17, 2007) beginning with a prayer service at 10:30am in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am at St. Mary of the Angels Church in Olean. Rev. Gregory Dobson, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. A reception will be held at the St. Bonaventure Clubhouse immediately following the graveside service.
