Obituary of Joseph B. Lowe

Joseph B. “Joe” Lowe Loving Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather Olean—Joseph B. Lowe, 77 of 2998 Rt. 16 North, passed away Sunday (November 25, 2007) at his home, surrounded by his loving family, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born May 26, 1930, in Olean, he was the son of Charles C. and Agnes Whitehead Lowe. On November 8, 1952 in the Cuba Methodist Church he married June F. Clayson, who survives. Mr. Lowe was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Korean Conflict with the Baker Company 5th Calvary Infantry Unit. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart, the Japanese Occupation Medal, the Korean War Campaign Medal with four battle stars, and the Combat Infantrymen Badge. He also received the South Korean Certificate of Appreciation and the Meritorious Service Medal from New York State. Mr.Lowe first drove tractor trailer for many years. Later he owned and operated Lowe's Empire Service in Hinsdale. In 1983, he was employed at Olean General Hospital as a maintenance engineer where he became Employee of the Month. He retired from Olean General Hospital in 1993. He was a member of Hinsdale United Methodist Church, the Olean Masonic Lodge 252 F & AM and the Teamster’s Union. He was also a lifetime member of the Order of the Purple Heart, the VFW, the Disabled American Veterans Association and the Hinsdale American Legion Norton Chambers Post #1434. Surviving besides his wife are three sons Joseph B. (Vickie) Lowe of Martinez, GA, James B. (Kathryn) Lowe of Hinsdale, Jared B. (Bridget) Lowe of Lakewood; two daughters Janelle L. (Douglas) Taylor, Julie (Senior Chief Lawrence) !McClaren of Ballston Lake, NY; eight grandchildren Nathan, Nolan, Douglas (Sarah), Derek, Seana, Craig, Brice, and Katie; a great- grandchild Xania Jade; a brother Douglas X. Lowe of North Tonawanda; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother, father and three brothers Leslie, Earl and Charles Lowe. Friends will be received at Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Road on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday (November 28, 2007) at 11:30am at the Hinsdale United Methodist Church. Rev. Dr. Carl Schultz will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Members of the Hinsdale American Legion will assemble at the funeral home on Tuesday at 7pm and the Olean Masonic Lodge 252 will assemble at 7:30pm. Memorials if desired may be made to the Hinsdale United Methodist Church or to Home Care and Hospice 1225 W. State St. Olean, NY 14760.
