David J. Barry “Proud Dad and Grandpa” Olean, NY—David J. Barry of 2005 W. State St. died Tuesday (December 4, 2007) in the Olean General Hospital after a short illness. Born May 21, 1942 in Coudersport, PA he was the son of David J. and Ethel Clayson Barry. On July 7, 1962 at St. Mary of the Angels Church in Olean he married Suzenne E. Kramer who survives. Mr. Barry was a 1960 graduate of Olean High School and served with the US Navy from 1961 until 1965. Among other duties he served aboard the USS The Sullivans. He received the Good Conduct Medal and was discharged as a 3rd Class Petty Officer. He worked for the former Acme Electric Co. in Cuba for 46 years and was also a trustee for the former Acme Electric Co. Credit Union, retiring in October of 2006. He served for the former Local 340 IUE as its chief steward and later as its president. He also was a former secretary for the Board of Directors of the Allegany Credit Union. Mr. Barry was a member of St. Mary of the Angels Church, the Hinsdale American Legion Norton Chambers Post 1434 and the former It’s Your Heart Club. He loved watching all sports, especially the Buffalo Bills and St. Bonaventure basketball. His favorite activity was spending time with his grandchildren. Whether it was fishing, watching them play soccer, driving them to various activities or just watching a movie. Surviving besides his wife are 1 son Steven G. (Shirley) Barry of Ashburn, VA; 1 daughter Marcia G. Strickler of Olean; 7 grandchildren R.J., Matthew and Krysta Strickler and Stephanie, Sean David, Michelle and Lauren Barry; several nieces and nephews; 1 sister-in-law Mary Lou (Russell) Bickner of Fairbanks, AK; 1 brother-in-law Michael (Pearl) Kramer of Black Creek and a special pet “Mickey”. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by an infant son Patrick Michael Barry; 2 sisters; several brothers and his mother-in-law and father-in-law Marian and Francis Kramer. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State St. Olean on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. A prayer service will be held Saturday (December 8, 2007) at 9:30am in the funeral home. A funeral service will follow at 10:00am in St. Mary of the Angels Church. Rev. Gregory Dobson, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the SPCA, 2944 Olean Hinsdale Rd. Olean, NY, St. Mary of the Angels Church, the Marie Lorenz Dialysis Center or to the intensive care unit of the Olean General Hospital.
