Basil V. Lamb Allegany, NY-- Basil V. Lamb of Allegany died Wednesday (January 4, 2006) at The Pines Health and Rehabilitation Center, Olean surrounded by his family. Born April 15, 1926 in Olean, NY he was the son of Basil and Mercedes Carey Lamb, Sr. He was raised by his paternal grandparents Michael H. and Katherine Ryan Lamb for whom he had great love. On October 25, 1947 in Allegany he married Helen E. Lippert who predeceased him May 4, 1985. Mr. Lamb was a lifelong resident of Allegany and had attended Allegany High School. He was a veteran of the US Navy, having served during WWII in Guam and the Atlantic Theatre. He was a recipient of the American Theatre Medal, Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal and the European Theatre Medal. He was employed by E. F. Lippert Co. from 1947 until the sale of the family owned business. He was a member of St. Bonaventure Church and he served as a Village Trustee. He was active in the Allegany Knights of Columbus, the Allegany American Legion and the Birch Run Country Club. Surviving are a son Michael V. (Celeste) Lamb; 5 grandchildren Noelle Lamb, Michael C. Lamb, Brian Lamb, David Lamb and Bridget Lamb; a brother David Lamb of Georgia and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a sister Gloria Panada. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean today from 4 to 7pm. Funeral services will be held Saturday (January 7, 2006) beginning with a prayer service at 11:00am in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30am in St. Bonaventure Church. Rev. Richard Husted, OFM, pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to Homecare and Hospice 1225 W. State St. Olean, NY 14760
