“Loving mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend”
Allegany, NY-- Matilda “Tillie” Lena Pauley of 3974 Rte 417W Lot 64 died Thursday (January 5, 2006) in the Cuba Skilled Nursing Facility in the presence of her loving family.
Born May 13, 1928 in Angelica, NY she was the daughter of Edward and Ethel Travis Simmons. On December 30, 1950 in Amity, NY she married Claude Morton Poor who predeceased her December 16, 1960. On December 15, 1979 in Killbuck, NY she married Lawrence Henry Pauley who predeceased her December 27, 1993.
Mrs. Pauley resided in several communities in the area including Angelica, Belmont, Friendship, Salamanca and Cuba. She endeared herself to many people in all the areas in which she lived and her love of conversation, listening to others and helping others in any situation is how she will be most remembered.
She worked at Acme Electric Co., Motorola Co. and also drove a bulk delivery route and paper route for the Olean Times Herald in the Salamanca area. Her outgoing personality suited her well for that job and also for her being a well-known area bartender. She was a life member of the Cuba American Legion Auxiliary and the Cuba VFW Auxiliary. She was an avid Yankees fan and she enjoyed gardening, watching her favorite television shows and cooking for others.
Surviving are 2 sons Wendall (Irma) Poore of Spring, Texas and Arthur (Yvonne) Simmons of Whitesville; 2 daughters Laura Ruether of Allegany and Janet Clark of Olean; 13 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 7 great great grandchildren; 1 sister Virginia (Fred) Foster of Short Track, many nieces and nephews; 3 sisters-in-law Bernice Payne of Virginia, Myrtle Simmons of Belfast and Janice Simmons of FL and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law Lyle and Margie Higley of Wheeling, W. Va.
In addition to her husbands she was predeceased by a twin sister Mary Ethel Simmons; 5 brothers Elmer Simmons, Edward Simmons, Lawrence Simmons, Arthur Simmons and Alvin Simmons and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law Herbert and Lillian Wood.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Monday (January 9, 2006) from 9 until 11:00am at which time funeral and committal services will be held. Rev. Larry Poelma, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Cuba, will officiate. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Cuba 17 South St. Cuba, NY 14727 or to the American Cancer Society, 101 John J. Audobon Parkway, Amherst, NY 14228-1198.
