HARRIETT E. ROSE ALLEGANY - Harriett E. Rose of North Seventh Street, Allegany died Saturday August 10, 2002 at the Waters of Allegany. Born September 12, 1922 in South Hampton, Long Island she was a daughter of Arthur and Alma Thomas Steele of Cooper Lane, East Hampton, LI. On October 25, 1943 in East Hampton she married George E. Rose, Jr. who predeceased her in 1978. Mrs. Rose was a graduate of East Hampton High School and moved to the Olean area in 1948. She was a member of the Bartlett Country Club, was an avid golfer, card player and bowler. Harriett was also a member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church and the Sixty Plus Club. She volunteered at numerous charities and enjoyed sports. She was an avid St. Bonaventure Basketball fan and loved to walk. She is survived by a daughter Cherie (George) Whitcher of Salamanca, a son Jeff (Karen) Rose of Rochester Hills, MI, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren; A sister, Roberta Hvolbeck of Greenwich, CT, a brother Allen Steele of Block Island, CT and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by two brothers Richard and Arthur Steele and a sister Margaret Marcincuk. There will be no public visitations. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Tuesday August 13, 2002 at 11:00 AM at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. Rev. T. James Snodgrass, Rector will officiate. A funeral luncheon will follow the service at the church. Private burial will be in Allegany Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 West State Road, Olean.
