Richard “Dick” F. Larkin
"loving father, grandfather, husband, brother & friend"
Richard F. Larkin, 53, entered into eternal peace on February 1, 2006, after having fought a courageous battle for life.
Born December 9, 1952, in Olean, N.Y., he was the son of Jack F. Larkin Sr. and Ruth Margaret Bish Braley. On September 6, 1992, he married the former Linda D. Hail, who predeceased him on April 14, 2002.
Mr. Larkin was a 1970 graduate of Olean High School. He spent many years of his life driving tractor-trailer and considered himself a “professional tourist”. He especially loved spending time with his 16-month-old twin grandchildren, Jacob and Hannah Knapp. He was a big fan of NASCAR and liked to cheer for Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Dale Earnhardt Jr. He also liked to visit the local dirt racetracks to watch Jim Farr, cousin, race the quarter mile, and Dan Knapp, son-in-law, race Figure 8’s.
Surviving are a daughter, Mandy (Danylee) Knapp of Port Allegany, PA; 2 grandchildren - Jacob & Hannah Knapp, 7 brothers - Robert (Deborah) Larkin of Shinglehouse, PA. Alfred (Marcia) Larkin of St. Petersburg, FL., George (Debbie) Larkin of Oldsmar, FL., William (Carolyn) Larkin of Newalla, OK. Jack (Elizabeth) Larkin Jr. of Portville, NY. Randall Larkin of St. Petersburg, FL., and Shane (Dana) Larkin of Columbus, GA; 3 sisters - Linda Larkin of Zephyrhills, FL., Deborah (Clyde) Latimer of Warner Robins, GA., and Gay (Gil) Gulick and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, godchildren, and cousins, including Edward (Kimberly) Farr of Allegany, NY., who was very special to him.
He was predeceased by his parents, his wife and several aunts and uncles.
Friends may call at the Casey, Halwig, & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Tuesday (February 7, 2006) from 11:00a.m. to 1:00p.m. with the funeral immediately following at 1:00pm. Rev. David Wood, pastor of the Obi Community Church will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Shinglehouse, PA. Memorials made be made to the American Diabetes Association.
