Michael T. “Tom” Gleason
Allegany, NY-- Michael T. “Tom” Gleason of 23 W. Union St. died peacefully at home (Tuesday May 25, 2006).
Born October 20, 1923 in Chipmonk, NY he was the son of James and Hannorah Ryan Gleason. On November 23, 1950 in Buffalo, NY he married Marie Burke who predeceased him October 12, 1999.
Mr. Gleason was a 1941 graduate of Allegany Central School and served with the US Army during WWII from 1943-1946. He was then employed at E. F. Lippert Sand and Gravel Co. for over forty years, retiring in 1988.
He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church in Vandalia and was also a member of the American Legion Charles Harbel Post 892 of Allegany. He enjoyed following baseball and playing cards.
Surviving are 1 son Daniel (Corrine) Gleason of Allegany; 3 daughters Mary Beth (Rich) Straub of Allegany, Carolyn Hemphill of Allegany and Ellen Gleason of Olean; 4 grandsons Rodney (Jen) Gleason, Greg (Robyn) Straub, Eric (Mandi) Hemphill and Brian (Kim) Hemphill; 4 granddaughters Daniele Gleason, Maureen Straub, Katie Gleason and Becca Straub; 7 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife he was predeceased by 3 brothers James Gleason, Donald Gleason and Gerald Gleason and 4 sisters Susan Gleason, Margaret Gleason, Mary Boser and Ramona Amore.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean tonight from 7-9pm and Friday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Saturday (May 27, 2006) beginning with a prayer service at 9:30am in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Bonaventure Church. Fr. Richard H. Flaherty, OFM, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Allegany Fire Department or to Homecare and Hospice 1225 W. State St. Olean, NY 14760.
