Rose M. Yorke “loving aunt and sister” Olean, NY-- Rose M. Yorke of 427 N. 1st St. died peacefully Monday (May 29, 200) in her home. Born March 19, 1920 in Olean, NY she was the daughter of Thomas and Neva Yared Yorke. Miss Yorke was a 1938 graduate of Olean High School and had resided in Olean all of her life. She worked for the former Thatcher Glass Plant, the Whelan Wholesale Co. and also in the housekeeping department at both the Olean General Hospital and St. Bonaventure University. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Maronite Catholic Church and was a member of the Third Order of St. Francis. She also was a member of the Franciscan Sisters’ Mission Society. She volunteered for the Olean General Hospital and for Literacy Volunteers. She was an abiding and faithful person of meditation and prayer and she loved to play bingo, go for walks with her dog Missy and play cards with her sisters. Surviving are 2 sisters Margaret Yorke and Edith Hamed, both of Olean and several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. She was predeceased by 3 sisters Nellie Simon, Sadie Harris and Mary Yorke and 1 brother Louis Yorke. A funeral liturgy was celebrated today (Tuesday) May 31, 2006 at 11:00am in St. Joseph’s Maronite Catholic Church in Olean. Rev. Joseph G. Akiki, administrator, was the celebrant. Burial was in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements were under the direction of the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, Olean.
