Richard E. Vossler Allegany, NY- Richard E. Vossler, 84, of 3375 N. 7th St., Allegany, died Thursday (July 27, 2006) at The Pines Health and Rehabilitation Center following a brief illness. Born March 23, 1922 in Olean, Mr. Vossler was the son of Frank and Leona Kleisath Vossler. On August 25, 1943, he married Mary Kathleen Stayer who survives. Mr. Vossler was a graduate of Olean High School, class of 1940. He received his Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from St. Bonaventure University in 1947. Mr. Vossler was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II with the 87th Infantry Division in the European Theater. He participated in the Battle of The Bulge and received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. Mr. Vossler taught for six years in the Business Department of the Olean High School and served as Chairman of the Department. He then was a partner in the Accounting Firm of Dunn and Vossler in Bolivar. Mr. Vossler began his career at St. Bonaventure University in 1952 as an Accountant in the Business Office. He was named Comptroller in 1962 and in 1967 he became Vice President for Finance and Treasurer, becoming the first Lay person to be appointed to the Post. Mr. Vossler served a five year term on the Allegany Central School District Board of Education and a six year term on the St. Francis Hospital Board of Trustees. Mr. Vossler served 24 years as a member of the Curriculum Advisory Committee by the Council of the State University of New York Agricultural and Technical College at Alfred. He was a member of St. Bonaventure Church in Allegany, a member of the National and Eastern Association of College and University Business Officers and served as a member of the Executive Board of the Eastern Association for two years. Mr. Vossler also served on the Board of Directors of the First National Bank of Olean and Manufactures Hanover Trust Co. Board of Directors. He was a member of the Cattaraugus Co. Legislature. He was affiliated into the Third Order of St. Francis on December 4, 1991 and received the St. Francis Medal on July 8, 2006. Surviving in addition to his wife are eight children, Mary Lee (C. Gavin) Strakosh of Canandaigua, NY, D. Lynn (J. Michael) Shane of Allegany, Richard F. (Madelyn) Vossler of Allegany, Kathleen M. (William) Giardini of Allegany, Anne P. (Daniel) Williams of Rushford, Patricia J. (James) Long of Englewood, Col, Barbara J. (Kim) Vossler of Denver, Col., and Bernard (Patricia) Vossler of Allegany, 25 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Mr. Vossler was preceded in death by a son Michael A. Vossler in 1969 and two brothers F. Bernard Vossler and Donald A. Vossler. Friends may call at the Casey, Halwig, and Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State St. Olean on Friday (July 28, 2006) from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Saturday (July 29, 2006) beginning with a prayer service at the funeral home at 11:30am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Bonaventure Church, Allegany at 12:00 noon. Burial will be at St. Bonaventure Cemetery, Allegany. Memorials may be made to the Allegany Fire Department or to St. Bonaventure Church.
