Lynn M. Witter
Hinsdale- Lynn M. Witter was surrounded by family and friends when she died at her Hinsdale home on Wednesday, August 23, 2006 after a seven-year battle with brain cancer. Born on November 5, 1961, she was the daughter of James and Sylvia Peasley Hoffman and on April 12, 1986, she married Jeffery J. Witter who never faltered in his vow to love, honor and cherish ‘til death do they part.’
Lynn graduated from Allegany Central School in 1980, and was most recently employed at Rehabilitation Today in Olean where patients could always count on being greeted by her warm, loving smile. She was devoted to her job and loved her colleagues as if they were members of her own family.
When she was fourteen years old, Lynn, a black belt and fitness enthusiast, was the New York State Women’s Kung-Fu Champion and received several other honors and recognitions throughout her life. Lynn never lost her fire and strength to overcome adversity even through her battle with brain cancer, which consisted of four surgeries and countless radiation and chemotherapy treatments. “I never let anything get to me…I just figure that God has his reasons, and maybe it’s a lesson to appreciate everything and everybody,” Lynn had said.
The center of her life were her four children, Beth Witter of Columbia, PA, Jessica Shaffer of Whidbey Island, WA, Bradley Witter, a student at New York University, and Kaytie Witter of Hinsdale. Anyone who knew Lynn recognized that her children’s success made her more proud than anything else, and she never missed an opportunity to sing to their praises- from Jessica’s commissioning as a Naval Flight Officer, Bradley’s job at US Weekly Magazine, and Kaytie’s acceptance to her first- choice university.
In addition to her husband and children, she is survived by her parents James and Sylvia Hoffman of Allegany; mother and father-in-law Robert and Geraldine Witter of Olean, a sister Lori (Doug) Cloud of Orchard Park; a brother Robert (Patricia) Hoffman of Olean; Nieces and Nephews, Michael and Cara Grimes, Corey and Staci Schachter, Kyle and Nolan Hoffman, Robert (Kara) Kosinski, Cheri (Jim) Machen; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was predeceased by her maternal grandparents Robert and Sylvia Peasley, Paternal grandparents Albert and Rhea Hoffman, and a dear friend Michele Foss Bartholomew.
If desired, memorials may be made to Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Hospice, or The American Cancer Society.
