Robert H. “Liver” Livingston, Jr. “A loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather” Allegany, NY—Robert H. Livingston, Jr., a resident of The Pines since 2005, died Friday (September 15, 2006) in the Olean General Hospital after a long illness. Born May 30, 1923 in Jamestown, NY he was the son of Robert H. and Alice E. Erwin Livingston. On June 15, 1946 in Olean, NY he married Dorothy Patricia Ewton who survives. Mr. Livingston had resided in Allegany since 1946 and had served with the US Marine Corps in the Pacific Theatre during WWII from 1943 to 1945. He had been employed at Bokman Pontiac and Olds in Olean as their parts and service manager until his retirement. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Allegany where he served as an elder for many years. He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 119, the American Legion Charles Harbel Post 892 of Allegany and a member of the Masonic Temple of Olean. “Liver” was the oldest life member of the Allegany Fire Department. After joining in 1948, he served the organization in a variety of capacities including a firefighter, ambulance driver, and chairman of the Allegany Board of Fire Commissioners for five years. He had given so much of himself to the department that the community center in Allegany, which he also helped design and build, was named “The Robert H. Livingston Community Center” in his honor on January 13, 1996. He also served as secretary-treasurer of the department for several years and was responsible for reservations and other duties. In addition, he served as chairman of the annual Fireman’s Golf Tournament. In January 2006, Bob was presented the Lifetime Achievement Award by the fire department at a special presentation at The Pines in Olean. He was an avid bowler and golfer and participated in many tournaments through the years with the firemen and their wives. He was also an avid Buffalo Bills fan. He will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched with his zest for life, living each day to the fullest and always being willing to help others. Surviving besides his wife are a daughter Alice “Lucy” (James) !McMillen of Allegany; a son Robert H. (Terri) Livingston, III of Tamaqua, PA; 7 grandchildren Robyn Robertson of Limestone, Mary Beth Seeley and Jeff Livingston, both of Allegany, Lauri Livingston of Glen Gardner, NJ, Robert H. Livingston, IV of Tuscaloosa, AL and Shayne and Ryen Livingston of Tamaqua, PA; 7 great grandchildren Christopher Cleveland, Jennifer Cleveland, Jamie Chase, Eric Seeley and Allyson Seeley, all of Allegany, Sean Robertson of Limestone and Francis Bennett of Glen Gardner, NJ; 3 sisters Helen (Robert) Carpenter of Port Charlotte, FL, Phyliss Provasnik and Joyce Hellenschmidt, both of Erie, PA; 1 brother Paul Livingston of Olean and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Sunday from 1-4 and 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Monday (September 18, 2006) at 11:00am in St. John’s Lutheran Church. Rev. Gerald leFeber, pastor, will officiate. Burial with full military honors will be in Allegany Cemetery. Members of the Allegany Engine Co. will conduct a memorial service at the funeral home Sunday at 7pm in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church or to the Allegany Fire Department.
