Lyle E. Dyer
Allegany, NY—Lyle E. Dyer, 90, of the Buffalo Rd. died peacefully Saturday (September 23, 2006) in his home after a long illness.
Born January 19, 1916 in Genesee, PA he was the son of William and Minnie Dyer. In 1977 he married Barbara Larson who survives.
Mr. Dyer had resided in the Salamanca area and attended school in Salamanca. In 1943 he enlisted in the US Navy and served on the USS Chariet during WWII.
He worked in the area oil fields in Bolivar, NY and then became a union carpenter with Union Local 66. He worked for local contractors, and then built restaurants and theatres all along the east coast.
He was a member of the Allegany American Legion Charles Harbel Post 892. He was also a member of the Olean Elks Lodge #491 where he served as Grand Exalted Ruler in 1994 and 1996.
Surviving besides his wife are 1 stepson David Edel of Belfast, NY; 1 stepdaughter Darlene Mueller of Port Charlotte, FL; 3 grandchildren Shane Edel of Olean, Angela Schmitz of Montana and Kari Schmitz of Port Charlotte, FL and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by 1 sister and 2 brothers.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State St. Olean on Tuesday (September 26, 2006) from noon until 1:00pm at which time funeral services will be held. Fr. Richard C. Flaherty, OFM, of St. Bonaventure Parish, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
