Obituary of Jacob M. Zegers

Jacob M. Zegers Portville, NY—Jacob M. Zegers of 9810 Portville Ceres Rd. died Wednesday (November 8, 2006) in the Olean General Hospital. Born June 6, 1942 in Canandaigua, NY he was the son of Jacob and Magdalena Mae Johnson Zegers. On January 4, 1964 in Palmyra, NY he married Mary Alice Vinke who survives. Mr. Zegers was a graduate of Marion Central School in Marion, NY and of St. Bonaventure University. He was first employed as a school psychologist for Portville Central School. He had been working for the !ReHabilitation Center in Olean for close to thirty five years where he helped develop and then served as director of children’s service programs. He developed other programs from their infancy at the !ReHabilitation Center and most recently came out of retirement to assist with strategic planning for the agency. He was a member of the Portville Lions Club and he was an avid fisher and hunter. He also enjoyed working with scale model railroad trains. Surviving besides his wife are 2 sons Christopher (Lynda) Zegers of John’s Island, SC and Gregory (Shirley) Zegers of Portville; 2 granddaughters Trisha Zegers and Jenna Fuller; 1 sister Nancy Peiters (Herman) Flowers of Marion, NY; 1 brother Gerald (Noreen) Zegers of Palmyra and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Friday (November 10, 2006) at 2:00pm. Chaplain Terry Bush of the Lyndon Volunteer Fire Company, will officiate. Flowers are gratefully declined.
