Olean, NY-- Cecil Michael of 117 N. 18th St. died Thursday July 31, 2003) in The Pines Health Care Center, Olean.
Born April 3, 1925 in Meigs County, Pomeroy, Ohio he was the son of Raymond M. and Eida Jane Hysell Michael. On February 26, 1949 in Cuba, NY he married Pauline K. Bunk who predeceased him October 20, 1996.
Mr. Michael attended school in Cuba and later served with the U.S. Marine Corps in WWII in the South Pacific theatre.
He was a former resident of Belfast and Cuba where he and his wife had operated a dairy farm for many years. He was also employed for 34 years for the Erie Lackawanna Railroad, retiring on March 18, 1983.
Mr. Michael was a member of the VFW and American Legion, both in Cuba and he attended Transfiguration Church in Olean. He was an avid gardener and he especially enjoyed spending time with the local "coffee gang".
Surviving are 1 brother Herman Michael of Pomeroy, Ohio and several nieces and nephews including Anthony Bunk, Jr. of Cuba; a great nephew Alan Hadden of Olean and a special friend Harriett Wilday of Olean.
In addition to his wife he was predeceased by 3 brothers Clifford Michael, Kenneth H. Michael and Everett "Pete" Michael and 3 sisters Thelma Moore, Beatrice Lightfoot and Phyllis Morris.
Friends will be received on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9pm in the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. Funeral services will be held Monday (August 4, 2003) at 9:30am. Rev. Jerome Stelmach, pastor of Transfiguration Church, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
