Obituary of Dorothy M. Cunningham

Dorothy M. Cunningham Olean, NY—Dorothy M. Cunningham, formerly of N. 17th St. died Wednesday (December 20, 2006) in The Pines Health and Rehabilitation Center, Olean where she had been residing the past 5 years. Born September 13, 1908 in Eden Grove, Ontario, Canada she was the daughter of Patrick and Elizabeth O’Connor O’Reilly. On October 12, 1940 she married James B. Cunningham who predeceased her January 1, 1985. Mrs. Cunningham was educated in Walkerton District High School in Walkerton, Ontario and then received her RN degree from St. Joseph’s Hospital in Guelph, Ontario. She moved to the United States in the 1930’s where she had been employed since 1936 as a registered nurse at Olean General Hospital and later for St. Bonaventure University prior to her retirement in 1975. She was a member of St. Mary of the Angels Church and the Archbishop Walsh Home School. She enjoyed traveling and was an enthusiastic bridge player having belonged to the same bridge club for 50 years. Surviving are 2 daughters Mary Catherine (John) Reynolds of Buffalo and Elizabeth (Wayne) fox of Burlington, Ontario; 4 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; 1 son-in-law Martin “Tino” Santini of New York, NY; 1 brother-in-law George Hughes of Harriston, Ontario and nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by a daughter Colleen Santini and 8 brothers and sisters. At Mrs. Cunningham’s request, there will be no visitation. A memorial mass will be announced in the spring of 2007. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Blind and Visually Handicapped Association 18 Jefferson St. Wellsville, NY 14895, Interfaith Caregivers 44 N. 4th St. Allegany, NY 14706 or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, Olean.
