Obituary of J. Donald Jones

J. Donald Jones— Allegany NY—J. Donald Jones, of 96 East Main Street, Allegany passed away December 22, 2006 at the Olean General Hospital after a brief illness. Born May 20, 1929 at the family home on 7th Street in Allegany, he was the son of B. Harry Jones and Dora C. Dieteman whose family came to Allegany in 1855. On July 20, 1957 at St. Bonaventure Church, Allegany he married Anne E. Quinlan who predeceased him on October 23, 2003. Mr. Jones graduated from Allegany Central School in 1947 and continued his education earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and Chemistry from St. Bonaventure University in 1951. In 1953, he received a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from the University of Houston, Texas. He was employed at St. Francis Hospital in Olean for 28 years and upon retiring from the hospital he worked at the Seneca Nation in Salamanca for several years. Mr. Jones was also on the Allegany School Board for 32 years, as well as the B.O.C.E.S. school board for 37 years. In 1983 he was named Walsh Foundation Person of the Year. Mr. Jones is survived by his 1 daughter Monica A. (Anthony) Olivette of Arlington, VA and 3 sons Thomas H. (Lisa) Jones of Houston, TX; Fr. Michael P. (Tim) Jones, O.F.M. of Hartford, CT and Terrence William Jones of Olean; 1 sister Bernadette T. Jones; 5 grandchildren Andrew J. (Stephanie) Jones of College Station TX, Janelle E. Jones, Shannyn Q. Jones, Bryce L. Jones all of Houston TX and Anthony J. Olivette of Arlington VA; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife he was predeceased by a brother John F. “Bud” Jones. Friends will be received at Casey, Halwig and Hartle Funeral Home 3128 Rte 417 Olean on Tuesday December 26 from 2-4, 7-9pm. A mass of Christian Burial will be held on December 27 at 10am at St. Bonaventure Church Father Michael Jones OFM will officiate.
