Howard W. Chapin Howard W. Chapin of 3974 Route 417 died Wednesday (August 28, 2002) in The Waters of Allegany Nursing Home Born October 27, 1917 in Allegany, NY he was the son of Albert B. and Signe Larson Chapin. On November 24, 1938 in Olean, NY he married Irene Eberle who predeceased him April 24, 1965. On September 17, 1968 in East Rochester, NY he married Clara Keefe. She predeceased him on June 22, 1984. Mr. Chapin was a student at Allegany High School and during and after high school, he worked at his dad’s farm "Chapin’s Dairy" in Allegany. After leaving the farm, he worked in Buffalo for his uncle, Frank Chapin in the building business. In 1955 he moved to Rochester, NY where he worked for Streb Brothers Builders for 13 years. In 1967 he worked for Eastman Kodak in Rochester, retiring in 1983. He has resided in Allegany since 1985. He attended Allegany Baptist Church. He frequently attended Eastman Kodak Retirees meetings in Rochester, NY. He was a volunteer driver for Meals on Wheels and for Interfaith Caregivers. He was also a member of the Sixty Plus Club in Allegany. Mr. Chapin will be remembered as a caring and giving person. Surviving are 2 brothers Robert (Gloria) Chapin and Paul (Arlene) Chapin, both of Allegany; 1 sister Doris (William) Bonhoff of Allegany and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9pm in the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. Funeral services will be held Saturday (August 31, 2002) at 11:00am in the funeral home. Rev. Frank Hayman, pastor of Allegany Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Allegany Fire Department, Homecare and Hospice 1225 W. State St. Olean, NY 14760, or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
