Obituary of Margaret E. Geary

Margaret E. “Peg” Geary Olean, NY—Margaret E. “Peg” Geary of 3100 Cranberry Rd., town of Allegany died Sunday (December 31, 2006) in the Olean General Hospital after a long illness. Born April 19, 1929 in Bolivar, NY she was the daughter of Leonard and Grace Maxwell Eberl. Mrs. Geary was a graduate of Olean High School and attended Lake Erie College in Painesville, OH. She was a devoted housewife and mother and she worked part time for Bradner’s Department Store, Acme Electric Co. and Geary’s Furniture Store. She was an excellent cook who especially enjoyed baking pies and Christmas cookies as well as canning all kinds of foods. She was very artistic and was a member of the Buffalo Jazz Society. She loved gardening, playing cards and scrabble, and cherished her frequent visits to Letchworth State Park. Surviving are 6 daughters Grace (David) Nolan of Allegany, Maureen (Mike) Ruether of Allegany, Megan (Bob) Blafkin of Las Vegas, NV, Shannon (Ed) Brown of St. Louis, MO, Helen Gossman of Augusta, GA and Colleen (Craig) Hartburg of Fredericksburg, VA; 2 sons David (Susan) Geary of Manlius and Stephen (Cathy) Geary of Olean; 12 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 1 sister Marylee (John) Evans of South Buffalo; 2 nieces and 3 nephews. She was predeceased by 2 brothers James Eberl and William Eberl. Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Wednesday from 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Thursday (January 4, 2007) beginning with a prayer service at 9:30am in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Bonaventure Church. Rev. James Vacco, OFM of St. Bonaventure University will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Allegany Fire Department.
