Elizabeth "Betty" Fortuna
"Loving wife, mother, grandmother"
Allegany, NY- Elizabeth "Betty" Fortuna of 1878 Four Mile Rd. died Tuesday (September 9, 2003) in Strong Memorial Hospital.
Born June 28, 1933 in Olean, NY she was the daughter of John and Beulah Dwyer Stavish. On November 24, 1951 at St. John’s Church in Olean she married Charles J. Fortuna who survives.
Mrs. Fortuna was a graduate of Olean High School and had resided in Allegany since her marriage. She was employed in the cafeteria at Allegany Central School for many years. Her family, especially her grandchildren, brought her much joy and she was especially looking forward to the birth of her next grandchild. She was involved in helping others and was active in the Sixty Plus Club as well as having been a lifetime member of the Allegany Fire Department Auxiliary. Her personal hobby was in being creative, especially with woodcrafts.
Surviving besides her husband are 3 sons Michael C. (Georgia) Fortuna and Dennis J. (Kelly) Fortuna, both of Allegany and Richard A. (Brenda) Fortuna of Olean; 2 daughters Denise M. (Stephen) Stady of Castle Hayne, NC and Felicia E. (David) Bruton of Allegany; 10 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; 2 brothers John (Elvira) Stavish and Joseph (Josephine) Stavish, both of Olean; 1 sister Margie (Jerry) Linnan of Painted Post, NY and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was predeceased by a stepmother Catherine Stavish and 1 brother Frank Linderman.
Friends will be received on Thursday from 7-9pm and Friday from 2-4 & 7-9pm in the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. Funeral services will be held Saturday (September 13, 2003) beginning with a prayer service at 9:30am in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Bonaventure Church. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Allegany Fire Department.
