Robert T. Johnston
Hinsdale, NY-- Robert T. Johnston, 87, of Hinsdale died Saturday (September 10, 2005) in The Waters of Salamanca.
Born June 28, 1918 in Olean, NY he was the son of Robert and Charlotte Armstrong Johnston. He was married to Madelyn Walton who predeceased him in 1955. In 1970 he married Winifred Ingalls King who survives.
Mr. Johnston attended school in Olean and then served with the US Army Air Corps in WWII from 1942 to 1945. He was stationed in India and flew the hump. He had been employed at Dresser Rand for 42 years prior to his retirement in 1980.
He was a member of the Allegany American Legion and was a life member of the St. Stephen’s Club in Olean.
Surviving besides his wife are 3 daughters Linda (Henry) Schutt of Fairport, Judy Grochowina of Olean and Rhonda Walterich of Castile; 1 son Thomas Johnston of Olean; 2 stepdaughters Delores Minerich of Olean and Judith (Dan) Bailey of Little Genesee; 2 stepsons James T. King of Depew and Daniel (Mary) King of Olean; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; 1 sister Patricia Johnston of Allegany and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by 2 sisters Marguerite Bubbs and Barbara Callahan and 5 brothers Howard Johnston, Bernard Johnston, Kenneth Johnston, George Johnston and Leonard Johnston.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Monday from 1-3 and 7-9pm. Funeral and committal services will be held Tuesday (September 13, 2005) at 11:00am in the funeral home. Rev. Donald Andersson, pastor of Bethany Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. View Cemetery, Olean.
