Esther Shafer
Allegany – Esther Shafer, formerly of Allegany died Saturday October 22, 2005 at WCA Hospital, Jamestown, NY. Born in Buffalo on June 17, 1912 she was a daughter of Charles and Lois Chapin Shafer. She graduated from Allegany High School, class of 1930.
Miss Shafer was employed as a medical secretary and assistant for Dr. James Durkin from 1948 until 1965. She was later employed at St. Luke's Hospital in Phoenix, AZ from 1965 until her retirement in 1976. She was a member of the Free Methodist Church in Allegany where she served as Sunday school teacher, church organist and church pianist.
She is survived by several cousins. She was predeceased by two sisters Mildred Chapin and Dorothy Shafer.
Friends will be received today (Sunday October 23, 2005) from 7-9 PM at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 West State Rd., Olean. Funeral and committal services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday (October 24) at 1:00 PM. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery. Memorials m ay be made to the Free Methodist Church, Allegany, NY 14706.
