Olean, NY-- Donald W. Redding of 3488 Rte 16 died Thursday (November 3, 2005) at Buffalo General Hospital after a short illness.
Born August 20, 1920 at home in Hinsdale he was the son of Dean And Agnes Peterson Redding. On April 15, 1950 he married to Elizabeth J. “Betty” Redding who predeceased him December 15, 2003. They had celebrated 53 years of marriage in 2003.
Mr. Redding was a veteran of the US Army having served during WWII. He was retired from Dresser Rand after 35 years of service. Along with his wife he co-owned and operated Redding Trailer Sales from 1964 to 1974 and also Redding Pool Supplies from 1974 until his retirement in 2003.
He served as a past commander of the Hinsdale American Legion Post 1434, was a founding member of the local chapter of the National Association of Campers and Hikers, and was a member of the Hinsdale Guys and Gals Retirement Club. He served on the Hinsdale Cemetery Board for many years and had been a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Olean.
Surviving are 3 children Beverly A. (Leon) Pearsall of Bainbridge, NY, Dennis O. Redding of Hinsdale and Barbara E. Thropp of Hampton, VA; 2 granddaughters Erica (Jason) Pearsall-Hall of Bainbridge and !LeAnne Pearsall Reach of Cairo, GA; 4 great grandchildren; a sister Louise Redding of Cuba; a brother Charles (Ruth) Redding of Hudson, NC; longtime family friend John Meyer of Hampton, VA and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife he was predeceased by 2 sisters Evelyn Baham of Weston’s Mills and Joanie Salato of Rochester and a son-in-law Joseph Thropp of Allegany.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9pm. Funeral services will be held Tuesday (November 8, 2005) at 11:00am in the funeral home. The Very Rev. T. James Snodgrass, rector of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Olean, will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Olean. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Hinsdale Fire Department or to St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church.
