EDWARD T. FLYNN
"longtime Allegany resident"
Olean, NY-- Edward T. Flynn of 3208 W. State St. Olean died Thursday (January 8, 2004) shortly after arrival at Olean General Hospital.
Born August 11, 1914 in Allegany, NY he was the son of T. Edward and Bertha Murray Flynn. On September 18, 1937 at St. Mary of the Angels Church in Olean he married Dorothy A. Quinlan who predeceased him March 26, 1997.
Mr. Flynn was a resident of Allegany most of his life. He graduated from Allegany Central School where he excelled at athletics. He first worked for the railroad and later for the Quinlan oil leases. He then worked for 25 years at Dresser Rand Co., retiring in 1979.
He was a member of St. Bonaventure Church, the Allegany Knights of Columbus Council #1220 and the Olean Elk's Lodge #491. He was an avid Bonnies basketball fan and enjoyed all sports. He especially enjoyed following his grandchildren's school sports.
Surviving are 3 sons Thomas (!JoAnn) Flynn of E. Syracuse,NY, Patrick (Rena) Flynn of Allegany and Terence (Nancy) Flynn of W. Seneca, NY; 1 daughter Mary (Christopher) Flannery of Wilmington, DE; 13 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife he was predeceased by a daughter Sheila Dugan in 1991 and a son-in-law Thomas Dugan in 1994; 4 brothers James Flynn, Lawrence Flynn, William Flynn and John Flynn and 2 sisters Sr. Aileen Marie, OSF and Mary Gluck.
Friends will be received on Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9pm in the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home 3128 W. State Rd. Olean. Funeral services will be held Monday (January 12, 2004) beginning with a prayer service at 9:30am in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in St. Bonaventure Church. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the Allegany Engine Company or to the Allegany-Limestone Sports Boosters Club.
