Doris L. "Dodie" Cowles "Loving wife, mother and grandmother" Olean, NY-- Doris L. "Dodie" Cowles of 421 Third Ave. died Tuesday (December 3, 2002) in the Olean General Hospital after a brief illness. Born July 6, 1933 in Connellsville, Pa., she was a daughter of Charles and Alice Bottomly Gordon. On January 27, 1951 in the First Baptist Church in Olean she married George W. Cowles, Sr., who survives. Mrs. Cowles was a graduate of Olean High School and had resided in Olean most of her life. She had been employed by the Downtown Deli in Olean and later by AVX Corp. until her retirement in 1994. Mrs. Cowles enjoyed her home, gardening and raising her family. Surviving besides her husband are three daughters, Deborah (Larry) !McFall of Portville, Darlene (Craig) Firkel and Diane (Robert) Franz, both of Olean; two sons, George W. (Mary) Cowles, Jr. and Gary (Teri) Cowles, both of Olean; 10 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; three brothers, Charles (Florence) Gordon, Kenneth (Julia) Gordon and Donald (Penny) Gordon, all of Olean; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a grandson, William Stephen Franz; and a sister, Margaret Jean Cousins. Friends will be received Thursday from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Rd. Olean, where funeral services will be held Friday (December 6, 2002) at 11 am. The Rev. Ronald L. Reichman will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Olean. Memorials, if desired, may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice
