Obituary of Francis E. Gabler

Francis E. Gabler "lifelong Olean resident" Olean, NY- Francis E. Gabler of 1511 W. Henley St. died today (Tuesday October 8, 2002) in Olean General Hospital after a short illness. Born January 20, 1918 in Olean he was the son of Clarence William and Barbara Carls Gabler. On February 20, 1939 in Olean he married Norma E. Riggs who predeceased him January 16, 2000. Mr. Gabler was a veteran of WWII, having served with the US Navy. He first attended Rochester Institute of Technology and then joined his father in his electrical contracting business, later operating on his own for many years. He then worked for Conap, Inc. in Allegany for several years after which he taught trade electricity at BOCES During this time he worked toward and received his bachelor’s degree at Buffalo State College. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Olean and served as an usher and on the Board of Deacons. He was also a member of the IBEW for over 66 years and was a member of the VFW. He also served on the board of directors for the SPCA for several years. Surviving are 2 sons Daniel (Rachelle) Gabler and William Gabler, both of Olean; 1 daughter Susan Lindamer of Bolivar; 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife he was predeceased by a daughter Rebecca Gabler in 1949; 2 sisters Barbara Shaw and Wilma Vanderhoef and 1 brother John Gabler. There will be no public visitation. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Friday (October 11, 2002) at 11:00am in the First Baptist Church in Olean. Rev. Alex Freer, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery. Memorials, if desired, may be made to the First Baptist Church, the American Heart Association or to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the direction of the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, Olean.
