Margaret A. “Peggy” Wilber
Olean, NY Margaret A. “Peggy” Wilber, 84, of E. Spring St., passed away Saturday (December 7, 2024) at the Olean General Hospital after a brief illness.
Born July 31, 1940 in Allegany, she was the daughter of Richard E. and Mary I. Giardini Deibler.
Peggy, affectionately known by family as “Queen”, was a lifelong resident of Olean and graduated from Olean High School. During her working years she was a capable and reliable housecleaner for many area doctors, and for Allegany Limestone Central School at its former 4th Street location.
She knew and continued to meet so many people who admired her energy, humor, kindness,and ability to move about town and beyond even though she never drove. Locally, she walked everywhere she needed to go, and enjoyed talking with friends both new and old, always feeling enriched by those she met throughout her day.
She was a social member of the Olean American Legion, and enjoyed music, dancing, and traveling. She liked shopping, trips to the Seneca casino, and spending time camping, most recently with her daughter and her family.
She leaves behind a daughter Paula (David) Ayers of Allegany; 2 grandchildren, Alexander Ayers and Thomas Ayers; 2 great grandchildren, Shawn and Addilyn “Little Queen”; 2 sisters, Rita Wilber of Salamanca, and Subrina Wilber of Olean; a sister-in-law, Kim Wilber of Olean, and several nieces and nephews. She also will be missed by her lifelong friend, Maxine Thurston of Tampa, FL, and her caregiver of the last 8 years, Jane Gayton of Olean.
She was predeceased by a brother, Jim Wilber.
An outdoor celebration of life gathering will be held in the spring or summer of 2025 and will be announced.
